Our Technology

WaveGuide Corporation brings precise scientific methods into the field, where conclusive decision making can be performed at the point of use. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is an analytical method for chemical analysis previously confined to PhD-staffed laboratories. The WaveGuide Formµla™ portable NMR device costs significantly less than other NMR systems and requires only micro-liters (µL) of sample for accurate results within minutes.

The Device

The Device

The WaveGuide Formµla™ is the world’s first portable battery operated NMR device. Less than a tenth of the cost and a fraction of the size of traditional NMR systems, it goes just about anywhere without sacrificing any analytical sensitivity or specificity. All analysis are made on-board the device, but the platform also contains embedded WiFi, Cellular capability and a secure cloud-based environment for tracking outbreaks of disease, threats of counterfeit products, failure prevention testing for fleet management, and numerous other possibilities. Multiple device configurations are available including GMP and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. Download product specification

Applications

Broadly customizable, WaveGuide Formµla™ tests can include apps for purity, potency and authenticity. With little to no sample preparation it quickly detects many infectious diseases and other illnesses at the point of care, tests the fat content of foodstuffs, assesses milk quality, measures lubricant breakdown, wear and tear of machinery, and confirms the authenticity and identity of intellectual property.

Forensics, Substandard products & Anti-Counterfeit Screening

  • Biologics & Biosimilars
  • Multivalent vaccines
  • mRNA vaccines
  • Lubricants or Hydraulic fluids
  • Olive Oils and other high value processed liquids
  • Liquors

At-line manufacturing & quality control (cGMP,)

  • Monoclonal Antibody serotype selectivity
  • Incoming inspection, ID, quantification of products (API, excipients, reagents)
  • Fat, Oil, Moisture content in Food
  • Dairy (mastitis, fat, moisture, vegetable oils, blends)

Other Emerging Applications

  • Diagnostics (TB)
  • Diagnostics (Ovarian Cancer)
  • Bacterium, Somatic Cell Counting (SCC)
  • Fluorine content in liquids
  • Hydrogen & Sulphur content in hydrocarbons

Ease of Use

WaveGuide Formµla™ requires no special training. Simply turn on the device and after a quick internal calibration, the WaveGuide Formµla™ is ready to use within seconds. Insert your sample, press “run,” and wait just a few minutes for the results.

The Science

WaveGuide Formµla™ leverages the same technology as existing NMR machines. The WaveGuide difference is covered by its patents both granted and pending with its micro-scale and customizable apps facilitating ease of use. Never before has one little magnet carried so much power.

Rapid detection of Tuberculosis (TB) in Clinical Samples Using WaveGuide Separation Assay and μNMR Formµla™ prototype.

Initial proof of concept studies with polyclonal antibodies displayed:

  • Ability to detect clinically relevant strains of M. tuberculosis in Sputum.
  • The  WaveGuide Formμla™ μNMR detected 104 CFU/mL and should improve with further testing.
  • Successfully verified technology using clinical sputum samples.
  • An overall accuracy of ~90%, and sample accuracy ~85%.
  • Successful detection of TB between 1-3 hrs in sputum
  • Larger data sets are needed for further evaluation. It is expected that using monoclonal antibodies will increase both detection limits and accuracy. Further studies with this instrument are warranted.
